Sex Ed Quiz: Female and Male Sexuality

I couldn’t agree more. Before getting my Doctorate in sexuality I was that gal who couldn’t say "vagina" out loud without blushing; or go into an adult sex shop completely paranoid about who might see me.

I was like most everyone; inundated with sex in the media and yet uneducated about sexuality.

Knowing how important sex ed was for adults I became a woman with a mission and titled my first book, "The Basics of Sex;" certain it would fly off the book shelves. No one wanted to buy it (or even touch it for that matter), the stigma of admitting to not knowing about sex so great. All 500 books are collecting dust in my basement if anyone wants a copy.

Not deterred I developed a quiz to give out at my lectures; a resounding success. I never tire of watching people take the quiz all the while their eyebrows going from an arched "Oh my!" position, to a furrowed, "Oh my!" position.

Here’s why you should take this sex ed quiz, "When you're sexually savvy it boosts your confidence because it's an absolute truth of sex and relationships that the less you know the more anxious you feel. While the more you know the more confident you are to enjoy a variety of sexual techniques, you're not scared of trying things and experimenting. And if things don't work out you realize that's simply part of sexual relationships—that things don't always go to plan—instead of taking it as a 'failure.'" says Dr. Pam.

How does the quiz work?
The first half is about female sexuality, the second half about male sexuality. If you’re truly a dare-devil, quiz your family and friends. If nothing else, it’s a great conversation starter when there’s nothing to do at work.

1. True or False?
Early vibrators were used by doctors to bring women to orgasm as part of a medical treatment?

Answer: True
In the late 1800s, many doctors gave their female patients a genital massage believing that sexual release would treat hysteria.

2. True or False?
If a woman isn’t wet, she’s not sexually aroused?

Answer: False
Not all women are able to lubricate every time sex is initiated. A woman becomes wet when her vaginal canal begins to "sweat." Her wetness can change with mood, age, and hormone levels. Also, medications such as the birth control pill, antihistamines, and allergies or latex can cause dryness.

3. The reason it takes a woman twice as long to become aroused is:
(a) She has too much going on in her day
(b) Her favorite soap opera is on TV
(c) Her orgasmic platform must become engorged with blood
(d) Women don’t like sex very much in the first place

Answer: c
A woman’s orgasmic platform is a much larger area than the man’s 6-inch cylinder penis and therefore takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to engorge with blood.

4. True or False?
At least half of women say they always have orgasms during intercourse.

Answer: False
Only 29 percent of women say they always have orgasm when during intercourse, compared to 75 percent of men. However, 44 percent of men say their women always have orgasms.

5. True or False?
Women ejaculate through their urethra?

Answer: True
Women’s ejaculate is not urine, nor is it the lubricant women’s vaginas produce. It most likely derives from the glands located on either side of the urethra. The amount women ejaculation can range from a few drops to a several cups of fluid.

6. True or False?
Women can achieve orgasm only through stimulating the clitoris or the vaginal canal?

Answer: False
There are several ways women can orgasm without touching the genital area. These include stimulating her breasts or nipples, kissing, pure fantasy and much more. Men are also able to have non-genital orgasms.

7. A woman’s vaginal canal contains the majority of nerves:
(a) Throughout the vaginal canal
(b) First third (i.e. at the vaginal opening)
(c) Middle third
(d) Last third

Answer: b
The vaginal opening has the majority of nerves with the rest of the vaginal canal feeling pressure.

8. True or False?
Freud claimed clitoral orgasms were superior to vaginal orgasms?

Answer: True
Freud believed vaginal orgasms as feminine and more mature, whereas women who focused on clitoral orgasms were envious of a man’s penis.

9. True or False?
It’s more common for a man’s left testicle to hang lower than his right?

Answer: True
For the average male, his left testicle isn’t quite as pert as his right one on most men. Although the opposite may be true on a left-handed male.

10. The amount of semen (or cum) a male ejaculates on average is:
(a) 1 teaspoon
(b) 4 tablespoons
(c) ¼ cup
(d) ½ cup

Answer: a
Most men ejaculate approximately one teaspoon to one tablespoon of fluid. They ejaculate more semen the first time they orgasm, and then less thereafter.

11. True or False?
The frenulum is a highly sensitive part of the penis?

Answer: True
The glans (or head) and the frenulum, which is the skin just below the head on the underside, are the most sensitive parts of the penis.

12. The cremaster refers to:
(a) A sexual position
(b) A person who likes to top in bondage
(c) A vibrator
(d) A male muscle associated with orgasm

Answer: d
The cremaster muscle elevates the testicles when a man is sexually aroused or cold due to a change in temperature. The penis itself contains no muscle or bone; it’s made of spongy erectile tissue. Erections occur when blood flows quickly into the penis and exit veins constrict to keep it there.

13. True or False?
A man can have an orgasm without ejaculating?

Answer: True
A man might have a "dry" orgasm because he recently ejaculated and doesn’t have any semen left at the moment. Otherwise, the clinical term for non-ejaculation is called coitus reservatus. Taoists believe it builds up a man’s male essence and allows him to absorb female essence. Tantrics recommend it as a way to experience sex as a path to spiritual ecstasy.

14. What exercise works on muscles associated with a male orgasm?
(a) Kegels
(b) Belchers
(c) Tossers
(d) Squatters

Answer: a
Kegels are meant for men and women. Kegel muscles (located around the pubic to tailbone area) contract involuntarily during sexual excitement. Improving your Kegel muscles means stronger, better orgasms for you.

15. The male G-spot is:
(a) The giggle spot on the underside of his penis
(b) In his female partner
(c) His balls
(d) His prostate gland

Answer: d
The prostate gland is a walnut-shaped gland that contains the bulk of the liquid in semen about two inches into his anal canal. The prostate gland contains numerous nerve endings making this extremely arousing.

16. The average speed that ejaculate shoots out of the penis is:
(a) 50 miles per hour
(b) 28 miles per hour
(c) 10 miles per hour
(d) What are you talking about I (my partner) barely dribbles

Answer: b
Ejaculate leaves the penis at roughly the same rate of travel as a city bus, but can reach speeds of 43 miles per hour depending how long since the last time he came. It’s all fun and games until somebody loses an eye!

17. True or False?
A cock ring is usually put on a soft penis?

Answer: False
A cock ring typically is put on a semi-erect or fully erect penis. Cock rings can help maintain an erection by keeping blood in the penis, and the build-up of pressure can feel good. The safest rings are stretchy and easily removed.
