How to Choose a Health Program When Married
Studies have shown that a happy marriage can actually lead to weight loss and provide other health benefits. Here are some tips on choosing a program that’s right for both of you.

When you or your spouse begins to get healthier, research suggests the other will follow suit.

This means by participating in an effective weight loss fitness program, not only will you benefit from the program, it will have a positive effect that may result in a less chubby hubby.”
Does getting married help you to stay fit? Well it depends.

According to a study published in January 2014 titled, "Associations between relationship status and day-to-day health behaviors and weight among diverse young adults," it states, "Married women were more likely to eat breakfast greater than five times per week compared with women in other relationship categories."

It appears that being married helps to create a suitable environment to consistently eat breakfast.

This research examined associations between relationship status and day-to-day health behaviors (e.g., dietary intake, physical activity) and weight status among a diverse cohort of young adults. Coupled with this study, according to James O. Hill, PhD, Director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, of those who have achieved sustained weight loss "Most—78%—reported eating breakfast every day, and almost 90% reported eating breakfast at least five days a week, which suggests that starting the day with breakfast is an important strategy to lose weight and keep it off."

But hold up…

On the other hand, the research also "indicated that married men were more likely to be overweight/obese compared with single or casually dating and committed dating/engaged men." So that is the rub.

So ladies, now that you know that you can be healthier and fitter in a healthy marriage what to do about your potential husband who already has Bon-Bons and TV clicker plans?

In another study conducted titled, "Halo effect of a weight-loss trial on spouses: Dietary Intervention Randomized Controlled Trial," the research suggested that a dietary intervention delivered to one family member may have a beneficial effect on the spouse. This means by participating in an effective weight loss fitness program, not only will you benefit from the program, it will also have a positive effect that may result in a less chubby hubby. Put simply, when the wife eats healthier the husband eats healthier too. So what's a couple to do?

Choosing the Right Program for Everyone

1. The one-size-fits-all & one-trainer-knows-it-all approach is obsolete. The first thing you should avoid are programs taught by just one personal trainer, one doctor, one dietitian or just a couple of instructors who are supposed to know everything. These weight loss fitness program models are long obsolete.

2. Make sure your program is personalized. When choosing an effective weight loss fitness program make sure your program is personalized, focused on lifelong health, and the information provided must be presented so that you can easily understand and implement it.

3. Be specific about your goals. Being healthy and fit is not just about weight loss. Make sure you are specific about what you want, such as to lose weight, get toned, develop better symmetry, get rid of your "muffin top," "bat-winged arms" or significantly reduce cellulite.

4. Look for real concrete evidence of results. Make sure the program has numerous testimonials of people who have actually used the program to get results—not just a bunch of young people who just needed to lose 10 pounds. Look for variety in age ranges such as from 25-55 male and female.

Always remember to be proactive about your health, and get one another motivated and on the same page when it comes to exercising and leading a healthy life together.
